November 4

Six rats weren't enough. No, really. I could still hear myself think at feeding time (oh, the sound of six rats crunching...), so a few more babies were in order.

Here are Kono and Metro and their new buddies, brothers Calle and Olie. And I thought two boys were quick...rat kinetic energy is exponential.

The newest girl, Schwartz. Unlike the others, her eyes really are red, it's not just the flash.

New girl gets most of the pictures. She just hasn't figured out yet how to hide from the camera.

The boys are being pretty rowdy in their cages, trying to establish an alpha. The girls, on the other hand, accepted Schwartz as one of them right away.

Leather.

Pinky has some wanderlust.

The grande dame Rizzo is still hanging in there, despite the fact that her tumor is about the size of Schwartz.

And all Riz needs is more Yogies and she's still good to go. Bring on those little whippersnapper baby rats!

Poor Krycek, though, is still lumpier...

...and a lot less inclined to be out running around. She can go from the food bowl to the water bottle to her nest and she's happy (she's gotten so mellow...as soon as I open the age door she pulls herself out for petting, maybe because it's easier to be petted than to groom herself...then she'll give me a little lick, accept her Yogie, and go back to the nest for another rest.)
